ServiceCharlie - like most entreprenurial ventures started off from personal need.

Whenever we wanted to look for any service, it meant either trawling through yellow-pages or wading through Craigslist! Both options were a shot in the dark because there was no way to know if the person was reliable or competent.

Like most folks, we have had our fair share of quality service providers and our share of er.. well.... duds! But there was no way for us to give a thumbs up to the good guys and thumbs-down to those that suck.

I have worked in large high-tech corporations as well as some mid-sized businesses. Around 8 years ago, I founded XpenseTracker.com as a hobby project - but it quickly morphed into a full-fleged application as users and customers gravitated to it.

I am deeply interested in web-technologies and harnessing them to solve common problems. Providing a common and convenient meeting-place for service providers and customers seemed like a perfect problem where web-technologies could be employed.

As a user of current methods (Yellow Pages and Craigslist), I was acutely aware of their shortcomings. There had to bea better way.... and so we came up with ServiceCharlie.com.

I have worked in Leather manufacturing, Gems & Jewelry, Hospitality industry as well as some High-tech corporations. I currently live in San Jose with my family.

Although I'm not an engineer myself, I like the idea of using technology to make life easier for everyday folks like me.

I have needed to hire professionals for carpet cleaning, fence repair, plumbing.... and at each time the process looked inefficient and clumsy. I have been fortunate to find some good service providers and I have also run into some utter duds.

Surely, there has to be a better way?? This line of thinking eventually led to ServiceCharlie.com.
